Rabbi Shimon Russell is a psychotherapist in private practice in Yerushalayim. In 2014 together with his wife he made Aliyah from Lakewood where he lived and practiced for over 25 years. Born in England he studied for five years in Yeshivos in Eretz Yisroel, before moving to Lakewood and joining the Kollel of Beis Medrash Gevoha. He continued his studies in BMG, receiving Smicha from the late Rosh Hayeshiva Horav Shneur Kotler Zt”l. Subsequently he studied for a masters degree in clinical Social Work, completing his training at the clinical externship program of The Ackerman Institute for Family Therapy in New York. His primary expertise is in Marriage, struggling adolescents and teens, and treatment of sexual abuse.
He is a popular and much sought after speaker. He has presented on many mental health related topics n throughout the US and abroad. He co-chaired four cutting edge conferences sponsored by Nefesh on the subject of Children in Crisis in the Orthodox community. He co-edited and published a book on Children in crisis, Detection Prevention & Intervention. He has presented at various national and International conferences including the Annual International conferences of Nefesh and the Torah U’mesorah convention. He has presented in depth training's on understanding & preventing Sexual abuse in the Jewish community to Rabbis & Educators, in Jewish communities in North America & Great Britain. He was the Clinical Director of Our place, a Brooklyn based drop in center for struggling teens from Orthodox backgrounds. He was the Dean and Founder of Tikva, a personal & spiritual development program in Yerushalayim. He is the director of training & development for Kesher Nafshi, a support organization for parents of struggling teens. He recently co-authored and published a highly acclaimed book, “Raising a loving family”.
